Chapter Six

"Why do I have to be so WEAK?!!" Melisande screamed out her frustration as she flung a large rock at the stone wall of the tunnel. It bounced off and plopped into the muck that covered the floor. She drew her knees up to sit hunched up on the barrel. She wiped angrily at her tears and glanced around to make certain there was no one else in this section of the catacombs. She didn't feel like being disturbed by anyone right now, not even Jehan.
She picked up another rock "Can't even go above ground alone! Stupid stupid stupid!" This rock made a loud CRAK! As it hit the wall and bounced several times before coming to rest in the muck. "Always have to be rescued. Stupid!!! Stupid weak sniveling Melisande!!" CRAK! Thump thump thump plop! "With horrible knees, and no talent!" CRAK! Thump thump thump plop! Thud.
Thud?
Melisande sat perfectly still and listened for a moment. Faintly she thought she heard ragged breathing. She cautiously stepped into the muck and crept along the wall, keeping to the flickering shadows. She left her torch where it was on the wall so as not to give away her position, just in case it was an enemy.
Peering around the bend in the tunnel, she could dimly make out a human form lying on the ground. She approached the figure in the darkness, and finally reached out to touch it when it did not move. The person was breathing coarsely, and they did not appear to be conscious. She went back the way she'd come and returned to the figure with her torch. It was a gypsy, that much was obvious by the clothing, and it was clearly a woman. Melisande put the torch in a sconce on the wall and knelt to turn the woman over, then gasped faintly.
The DreamWalker lay unconscious in her arms.
