Epilogue
"As to whether it is true or not, as I said, is something you'll have to judge for yourself. Clopin is merely passing the tale along." As hesays this last with a smile, the children begin to clap, but it is cut off abruptly as two angry mothers approach.
"Tobias! I have been calling and calling...."
"Ow! My ear Mama!!"
The gypsy doffs his bedraggled hat to the other woman with a roguish grin, to which she responds with a huff and collects her children. Seeing you watching this he gives you a wink before putting his hat back on and retreating inside the wagon once more. A moment later he emerges through the door and comes around to the side, closing up the shutters. You beginto move off towards home, but stop in the shadows for a moment, watching him. Faintly, on the breeze, you can hear him reciting something to himself in a little singsong, a poem that lingers on in his head.
| "Her body shall be wind, |
| her heart shall be of fire. | * | | * |
| Her songs will touch the mind, | | * | | | ( |
| her soul shall be a lyre, | * |
| a voice like gentle rain, | | | * |
| her very eyes shall lift one's pain, | | | | | * |
| and she shall walk through dreams......." |
The End
[Note: Those symbols by the poem are
meant to be a moon and stars]
