"A Minor Variation" Shrine to Dorothy Catalonia
Rants
A bunch of highly opinionated, not-so-brief ramblings about Dorothy and those she interacts with (read as: Quatre). My opinions only, not written in stone ^_^;
Dorothy, the Gundam Pilot
Dorothy with a gundam? Scary concept, right? Well, guess what, technically, she could be counted as one! She does, after all, control the gundanium Virgos dolls! (Or is that stretching it a bit..?)
Dorothy on "ZERO"
I've read numerous times, ep reviews of a sort, about Dorothy being on Zero when she's using the Mobile Doll system, and how the system didn't seem to affect her at all. I disagree with two things in this. First, the Mobile Doll system is not exactly the same as ZERO. It might have a similiar "wider consciousness" control range to cover all the mobile dolls, but I doubt it's as mind-warping. Now, while most people say they didn't notice her being affected by any Epyon-ish tendencies, it became quite clear to me when I was watching that last run on CN (so, okay, it took me a while to notice). The system does in fact have an effect! Why else would she call for something so drastic as firing the main cannon at the Gundams, when there was a bit of risk involved considering the cannon wasn't prepped, etc. "It's all we can do!" or some such frantic shout..
The Quatre x Dorothy pairing
I made contradicting comments about this. First I said I thought they'd make a good couple, then I said they were the worst possible pairing. I need to clear that up for myself and anyone following this site. It depends on what factors are being considered whether the pairing works or not. For example, if Dorothy stays resentful of Quatre's kind, caring attitude, he would be badgered a good deal of the time via verbal assault about all his shortcomings. In turn, he would annoy her with comments about how she could be different, if she would try to be nicer. I think even Quatre could lose patience with someone that stuck on being bitter, and Dorothy would be happy because she gets a kick out of making other people angry.
However, if Dorothy decides to break down and admit she hates war and allows herself time to grieve, Quatre would be waiting to comfort her. He's too caring not to -- after the war I could see him occasionally checking up on all the various people he met during the war to see if they were doing okay. That kind of experience draws people together, especially when they all need to pull through the trauma and continue living. I think it all really depends on Dorothy, since Quatre can't really hate anyone (unless he's shocked into it, heh). Despite what I said on the pairings page, I doubt he'd hold a grudge. Trowa might, though. ^_^
The Ep 44 Connection
Most people have caught on to this already: just how did Quatre and Dorothy realize they were fighting against each other?? Quatre has the excuse of being a psychic newtype hyped up on the ZERO system. Dot may have the Epyon-copied Mobile Doll system, but I doubt it's as mind-warping as Epyon is because Dot stays her usual calculating self. Plus, where do they know each other from?
Well, they met at the Cinq Kingdom. Dot had her research on both Heero and Quatre; she apparently joined Relena in stalking Heero, getting photos of him, and there was a profile on Quatre in her computer -- which is most likely how she found out about his father's death; it probably also had other details on him, like his intelligence in battle...And, if she did her homework on the other pilots, she'd find only Q capable of organizing the others at that time -- Duo not capable to begin with, Wufei too self-centered to encourage the others, and Trowa, back to his normal self, is used to working alone. So there you have it. A possible theory on how they recognized each other.
The Anti-Relena
Does Dorothy have disdain for Relena or does she truly respect her? Perhaps a little of both. I think she resents Relena's unwillingness to encourage others to fight, but she depends on Relena's wish for peace to set a path for the future. She says as much to the Romefellar council: "because the future must be guided in the correct direction." Correct obviously being toward peace, if not Total Pacifism -- people still need the will to stand up for what they believe in, after all. That means having an attitude consisting of more than wussy little speeches. This is why Dorothy challenges Relena so often, to incite her into being vehement about her beliefs, showing how much she supports them.
